Glass Edgework Types
When the glass is cut it leaves a razor-sharp edge on the top and bottom of the glass. We offer a number of edge finishes to meet your design requirement. Check out these modern edgework types:
Seamed
The top and bottom edges of the glass are sanded, giving it a smooth, safe edge.
Flat polish
This is the most common glass edgework types finish. The edge is ground at 90 degrees to the top surface of the glass and is finished with a satin or high luster finish. A flat polish has an “arias” (45-degree surface to remove sharpness from the glass) which should not be confused with a beveled edge.
Beveled Edge
The face of the glass or mirror edge is ground off, giving it a decorative look. Most bevels are 1/2″ or 1″. These are the most common, however, several other widths are available.
Glass Thicknesses
Less than 1/8″ — used in protective custom tops (surfaces)
for furniture and antiques, picture frames
1/8″ — used in custom tabletops, picture frames, end tables.
3/16″ — used for insulated units, small custom shelves, custom glass tabletops.
1/4″ — used in custom glassware, custom shelves, custom glass topping surfaces for antique furniture.
3/8″ — used in custom shower doors, custom glass table tops, custom glass panels, custom sheets, custom patio tables.
1/2″ — used for custom glass patio tables, custom table tops, protective top custom glass surfaces, custom glass windows, custom glass sheets, custom showers.
3/4″ — used for art exhibits, custom staging areas, custom sheets, custom storefronts.
